With NBA Free Agency around the corner, the Dallas Mavericks are emerging as “serious candidates” to sign the Jrue and Justin Holiday.

Mark Cuban and the rest of the Dallas Mavericks’ front office never quit in pursuit of creating a better supporting cast around their aging superstar, Dirk Nowitzki. The Mavericks are now looking at two brothers, Justin and Jrue Holiday.

According to Jake Fischer, the Mavericks have emerged as strong possibilities to sign this tandem to free-agent contracts, perhaps even frontrunners.

With the New Orleans Pelicans in 2016-17, Jrue Holiday averaged 15.4 points, 7.3 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. At 27, the younger Holiday is just entering the prime of his career and the Mavericks are looking to address their starting point guard role.

The older Holiday, Justin, played with the New York Knicks in 2016-17, where he averaged 7.7 points, 1.2 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. Justin also spent time on the 2015 Warriors’ squad that won the NBA Championship.

During that time, Holiday spent time with Harrison Barnes and developed a relationship with him. As you all know, Barnes is a member of the Mavericks and would definitely welcome the Holiday brothers.

Fischer also went on to add that the Holiday brothers have pondered playing with each other for a while now. It would be the perfect timing, especially considering that both brothers are free agents at the same time.

The Mavericks signed rookie point guard, Yogi Ferrell, to a contract at the end of the season due to his impressive performance down the stretch. Regardless, Jrue Holiday is a better point guard and would take the starting job in Dallas.

On the other hand, Justin Holiday would be more of a role player, coming off the bench. It would be similar to his roles at his previous stops in New York and Golden State.

The Dallas Mavericks are starting early, trying to get an upper hand on some free agents that will be available starting July 1.
