Dolphins rumors: Jarvis Landry sets contract plan

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry communicated his plans for his awaited contract extension.

Jarvis Landry is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this upcoming season, and the Dolphins have yet to offer him an extension. It’s surprising to many as Landry has easily been their most productive offensive player since he was drafted to the team in 2014.

Landry’s agent Damarius Bilbo stated that he will not hold out of training camp due to the prolonged negotiations, but stated that Landry will not negotiate for a new deal once week 1 rolls around. Miami has expressed their desire to eventually take care of Landry, but there has yet to be much traction between the two.

The Dolphins have been showcasing a new mantra in which they “take care of their own,” by resigning key players such as Reshad Jones, Kenny Stills, Kiko Alonso, and Andre Branch. It’s a great step for a team that is looking to build off their first playoff appearance last season since the 2008-09 season.

However, Landry is one of their main team leaders, and the fact that they have not taken care of him yet is not a particularly good look. Landry has remained professional about the situation and continues to practice with the team and remains hopeful a deal will get done with the Dolphins.

Landry has been one of the best slot receivers in the NFL the past three seasons, and he holds the record for the most receptions in a players first two seasons with 194 receptions. Landry is also tied with his best friend, Odell Beckham Jr., for the most receptions in a players first three seasons in the NFL. He is certainly worthy of an extension, and it should happen sooner or later for both sides.
