The first week of the CFL season concludes when the Hamilton Tiger-Cats travel to Toronto to face the Argonauts in the battle between two hated rivals.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts are arguably the biggest rivalry in the CFL, due in large part to their proximity. The two teams’ stadiums are only 41 miles (67km) apart and that will lead to a large portion of the stands in Toronto being full of Hamilton fans.

After missing the playoffs a season ago, the Argos completely revamped their entire organization. Gone are former general manager Jim Barker and head coach Scott Milanovich. In their place, former Montreal general manager Jimm Popp and former Alouettes and Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman. Trestman’s job will be keeping future Hall of Fame quarterback Ricky Ray healthy. When healthy Ray is still one of the best players in the CFL.

However, the Argos want to improve on their last-place finish from a year ago they need to their defense. Toronto signed former all-star Bear Woods and former Tiger-Cats Rico Murray, Johnny Sears Jr., and Cassius Vaughn. After stints in the NFL, the Argos were able to re-sign Cleyon Laing and Marcus Ball both should help improve last year’s worst defense.

Hamilton finished second in the East a year ago despite starting quarterback Zack Collaros missing half of the season. If Collaros stays healthy, Hamilton can challenge for the best team in the east. Offensively, the Ticats can spread the ball around with multiple options. If Hamilton is going to win they are going to need big games from receivers Luke Tasker, Terrence Toliver and running back C.J. Gable.

Defensively, the Tiger-Cats game will be to get to Ray with their front four. Adrian Tracy, John Chick, and Ted Laurent combined for 29 sacks a season ago. However, Hamilton might be forced to make changes to their Canadian ratio because of injury. The CFL requires each team to start seven Canadians.
