NFL roundup: Jamaal Charles feeling ‘normal’ heading into training camp

Jamaal Charles will be with the Denver Broncos during the 2017 NFL season, and he finally feels healthy enough to contribute.

Throughout his NFL career, Jamaal Charles was the featured back for the Kansas City Chiefs. After being released this offseason, Charles latched on with the rival Denver Broncos, hoping to start a new chapter in his career. On a repaired knee, Charles is starting to feel normal again, which could result in Denver having the ground game they lacked so badly in 2016.

Another former star looking to turn things around in 2017 is wide receiver Victor Cruz, who played his entire career with the New York Giants up until this point. This offseason, the Chicago Bears signed the veteran to a new deal, where he will look to prove he still has a lot left in the tank. Cruz will be joining a team with a ton of question marks on offense, so he should be able to bring some veteran leadership to the locker room.

Myles Garrett was the No. 1 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, as the Cleveland Browns made the right decision in picking the best player available. Garrett’s talent has not been lost on legends either, as Hall of Famer Bruce Smith would like to see him have a legendary career of his own. The former Texas A&M defensive end has all the physical gifts to  be a special player, but he is going to have to bring it every play at the next level.

Former NFL running back Clinton Portis made a lot of money during his NFL career, only to see it go away thanks to some heavy spending, and fraud by a former financial manager. In fact, the loss of money was so hard on Portis that he sat outside his former manager’s office contemplating murdering him. Luckily, a friend talked Portis out of the killing, and he has turned his life around, and even helps the Washington Redskins with broadcasts during the preseason.

Finally, it looks like quarterback Michael Vick may have a little bit left in the tank. After dominating in college football, and then in the NFL, Vick took on a new challenge this week. Playing in his first flag football game, Vick tossed eight touchdowns, as his team defeated Terrell Owens squad in a dominating performance.
