Larry Brown Says He Was Not Contacted By 76ers

Recently, reports came out that Larry Brown was contacted by the 76ers along with two or three other NBA teams about their coaching vacancy. Now, Brown says otherwise.

On 97.5 The Fanatic’s Tony Bruno Show, Brown put those reports to rest, saying that the Sixers have not contacted him. The 72-year-old head coach at SMU talked about his current situation at the college ranks.

"“I love what I’m doing.”"

It is apparent that if Brown were to make a return to the NBA at this stage of his career, the circumstances will need to be ideal.

There is no question that Brown loves the city of Philadelphia and the organization. He still has a house in Philly, and has a great relationship with former GM Tony DiLeo.

Unfortunately for Brown, DiLeo was fired last month to be replaced by Sam Hinkie.

"“I’m in a situation where I think I can help young people. But I don’t ever want to get back into coaching at the professional level unless I have a great relationship with the ownership, and people let me share the knowledge I have learned and work with young people that have the same values that I have.”"

After that statement it became pretty clear that there is no return to South Philly in the cards for the former Sixers coach. Brown had a great relationship with the previous ownership, but has no existing friendships left in the front office with Josh Harris’ group.

"“I think when Tony was let go, I don’t think that they would have any interest in somebody like me. I love the team. I love the city. I have always felt that if there was any way I could help as a resource because of the way I was treated I would love to do that. But I think there are probably a lot of great options out there for them.”"

According to Brown, Philadelphia will always be home. However, it seems as though their decision will not be the future Hall of Famer.
