With four of today’s eight games already complete, let’s take a look at what’s happened so far and what’s to come. There has been one straight set victory, one four set wins, and two five set match as well.

Fernando Verdasco of Spain beat Kenny De Schepper of France in three sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. On Verdasco’s trip to the Wimbledon Quarterfinals, he’s only lost one set in the four matches he has played, with a 12-1 set record thus far.

(24) Jerzy Janowicz of Poland beat Jurgen Melzer of Austria in five sets, 3-6, 7-6 (1), 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Janowicz has had a great showing so far in this year’s Wimbledon. After his 3rd round victory over (15) Nicolas Almagro, Janowicz showed confidence, and he’s is certainly proving that he has exactly that.

(4) David Ferrer was able to move on with a win over Croatian Ivan Dodig, 6-7(3), 7-6 (8), 6-1, 6-1.  Ferrer had an early scare losing the first set, but he was able to recover and pull out with a win.

And the last complete match of the day so far belongs to Lukasz Kubot of Poland, who beat Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in five sets, 4-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Mannarino made news during the second round when he moved onto the third round following a surprising exit of John Isner. But the fourth round is as far as the Frenchman is going to make it this year at the All England Club.

There are four other men’s singles matches that are either in play or will be played later this afternoon. Currently, (2) Andy Murray is up one set on (20) Mikhail Youzhny. We are also in the middle of a match between (8) Juan Martin Del Potro and (23) Andreas Seppi. That match is currently in favor of Del Potro, up two sets, and looking to close it out in the third set.

(1) Novak Djokovic is yet to play (13) Tommy Haas, as is the match between (7) Tomas Berdych and Bernard Tomic.

Stay around for further news from Wimbledon as the afternoon of day 8 continues.
