I don’t even know what to make of this comment from Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett, but apparently he thinks his head coach Marc Trestman is like Willy Wonka. It’s a compliment.

From CBS Sports:

"“I think me and Coach Trestman are probably the only two people who understand each other,” Bennett said during an appearance on ESPN 1000 (by way of the Chicago Tribune). “I always say Coach Trestman reminds me of the first Willy Wonka. Not the Johnny Depp one; the Johnny Depp one was really cool. But the first one. Before that. The 1943 version.”For the record, the original Willy Wonka starred Gene Wilder and was released in 1971. No matter.“If you really look at Coach, he’s a genius,” Bennett continued. “And a lot of times when you’re around really, really smart people, you don’t really understand them. I thought Willy Wonka was brilliant. I mean he had all kinds of candy. Who doesn’t like chocolate and candies? Everybody wanted a Gobstopper. Ya know? I just think he’s brilliant.”"

No word on whether Trestman is flattered by the comparison. There were a lot of geniuses or smart people to choose from in the world, and Marty B chose Willy Wonka, the delusional and eccentric guy who lived in a fantasy world.

Does it really come as a surprise that Martellus Bennett finds the inventor of multiple types of candy brilliant? I mean he is the same guy that made a Captain Crunch rap video.
