Using the “F-bomb” in a public setting is almost never a good idea, but apparently, using such inappropriate language in an NBA press conference is frowned upon, even more so than in every day life.

News that Washington Wizards head coach Randy Wittman was fined for the use of the “F” word isn’t a surprise (at all), but the monetary total that he was docked seemed to cause a bit of a stir in the blogosphere on Monday afternoon. $20,000 does seem to be at least slightly on the aggressive side as far as fines go for language, but on the other hand, that particular word is probably number one on the list of verse not to break out in public.

At the end of the year, the Philadelphia 76ers (who beat the Wizards just before the “incident” will likely have less than 20 wins, and suddenly, Wittman’s outrage after a loss will seem more justified. However, it’s plainly inexcusable to use that particular word in that setting, and I think a $20,000 fine should to the trick in curtailing that behavior from Wittman in the future.
