It looks like Adrian Peterson may be able to play this week after X-Rays and an MRI showed no structural damage that will cause him to miss the season as originally feared. Peterson has said he’ll try to play, but even if he’s active Gerhart could make a nice pickup based on his performances the last few weeks. Sources are conflicted over his availability, but if you own Peterson, Gerhart needs to be your top priority since then you’re covered either way.

After taking over for Peterson against Baltimore, Gerhart ran for 89 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. When he’s gotten touches, he’s proven effective, so even in a part-time role he does have some fantasy value as a flex play.

The Vikings host the Eagles this week who have allowed 80 yards or more in the last five weeks to opposing running backs. They finish up with the Bengals and Lions which are tougher matchups, but he’s still the best running back pickup based on the potential that he could be the top running back in a run-first offense.
