NBA Trade Rumors: Boston Celtics could be in play for Emeka Okafor trade
By Josh Hill
The Phoenix Suns have made it no secret that they wish to trade Emeka Okafor before the trade deadline arrives on February 20th. Phoenix’s plan all along has been to trade Okafor, as they acquired him from Washington with the intention of using him as a trade chip at some point this season.
Phoenix’s time to cash in on their trade chip may be approaching quicker that we think, as the Boston Celtics may have eyes on a trade with the Suns. Okafor’s contract is not really the meat of a potential trade, rather the plethora of draft picks the Suns have are.
According to Chuck Myron, the Celtics could entertain a trade that sends Okafor and picks to Boston in exchange for any number of their veterans that include Avery Bradley or Jeff Green. Myron also points out a scenario where the Suns could acquire Brandon Bass and Keith Bogans in exchange for Okafor and draft picks, thus coming out of things with a pair of players they don’t have to commit to beyond this season but could very much use in the postseason.
A lot can happen between now and the deadline, but the Suns will more than likely be moving Okafor and draft picks before the deadline passes. The only question is will they find a suitor in the Celtics or will one come from somewhere else.
