NFL Rookie Of The Year Finalist Breakdown
By John Starba
Cordarrelle Patterson
The Vikings having three picks in the 1st round of this past draft gave them the opportunity to address some needs and to acquire players that could be there for some time. One player that was said to be very talented was Patterson.
With the departure of Percy Harvin a hole needed to be filled. Cordarrelle was said to have great skill coming out of college and Minnesota was that team to see what he had to offer. He took a little while to get going but when he did the league took notice in my opinion. Listed as receiver watching him during his first year sometimes you could never tell. Scoring in different ways showed that he could get involved in other ways besides the passing game.
He also scored rushing the ball and also on a return. His value definitely rose towards the end of the season and it will be interesting to watch him next year. Patterson’s final stats looked like this: 16 games played, 45 receptions, 469 yards receiving, 158 rushing yards on 12 attempts, 1393 return yards on 43 attempts and 9 total touchdowns.
There you have the guys in the mix potentially to walk away with this year’s rookie of the year award. All deserve the acknowledgement but does one out rank everyone else? We will see and then next season we will all have the luxury to see what players will join in the conversation again and who will emerge as the next great rookie.
