NFL Rumors: New Orleans Saints to target Captain Munnerlyn
By Josh Hill
The New Orleans Saints had a defensive rebound in 2013, but there is still work to be done to ensure they don’t get burned in the postseason again. There were some pretty bad losses in 2013 thanks o a so-so secondary and upgrading that position will be a priority in the offseason.
New Orleans won’t buy high on a top free agent, but ESPN.com Saints blogger Mike Triplett believes that a guy like embattled Carolina Panthers cornerback Captain Munnerlyn if he fails to reach a new contract this offseason.
"The good news is that this year’s free-agent class appears to be loaded with talent. I don’t think the Saints have to go after top names likeBrent Grimes, Aqib Talib or Alterraun Verner. But maybe someone with starting experience in the second or third tier – maybe trying to steal Captain Munnerlyn away from rival Carolina, for example."
Munnerlyn has been a bit vocal about the lack of contact from the Panthers he’s heard, something that seems to be bothering him. Staying in the NFC South makes sense for Munnerlyn and the Saints targeting him also makes a ton of sense.
