NFL Free Agency Rumors 2014: Carolina Panthers trying to re-sign brandon LaFell
By Josh Hill
The Carolina Panthers have had a disappointing offseason so far that has resulted in the team franchise tagging a guy they said they weren’t going to, missing out on the top free agents who can help them and losing almost every single weapon that Cam Newton has thrown to.
Carolina’s receiving corps wasn’t that outstanding to begin with, which only highlights the missteps the team has taken in letting Ted Ginn Jr and Steve Smith walk to free agency. The most devastating loss was Smith but overall, the Panthers haven’t done themselves any favors in finding Cam Newton targets in 2014.
All of this has led the Panthers to circle back to Brandon LaFell, as the Charlotte Observer is reporting the team is working on a deal with him to keep the receiver in town.
"After missing on Ginn, Gettleman has begun negotiating with Brandon LaFell, according to two league sources."
After going from a losing team to the No. 2 seed int he NFC playoffs in 2013, the Panthers sure don’t seem to be making things easy not themselves and had better hit some home runs in the draft at wide receiver — something that’s entirely possible.
