The Utah Jazz have nothing left to play for this season because they have no more games left to play. After being knocked out of playoff contention long ago, it’s actually been a while since the Jazz have had anything to play for outside of jockeying for the best draft lottery odds.

But there was still an element of pride the team was playing with as the roster knew it was playing for the job of head coach Tyrone Corbin. While there has been growth under Corbin, there is the belief that Utah will fire him and grab someone like George Karl or one of the Van Gundy brother to take the team to the best level.

According to Steve Luhm of The Salt Lake Tribune, that decision could come this weekend.

Utah won’t be rushing to hire a head coach but it also sounds like they won’t be rushing to fire one either. Despite his struggles, there’s a lot to like about Corbin and it’s likely that he lands another nice job if fired by Utah. But this is an unforgiving league that doesn’t honor potential in a head coach, it only honors winners and so far Corbin just hasn’t been that for the Jazz.
