2014 NFL Draft: Day Two winners and losers
By Hayden Kane
Losers: Houston Texans
Let’s jump to the good first: the Texans ended the night with a great pick. To get defensive tackle Louis Nix III with the no. 83 pick is a ridiculously good value. J.J. Watt and company will have their work cut out for them as veteran leaders/motivators moving forward, but the Texans added crazy talent up front with Nix and first-overall pick Jadeveon Clowney.
Now the bad: you know where the Texans did not add talent? Quarterback. There were options to do just that at the top of the second round, but the Texans went with guard Xavier Su’a-Filo instead.
Maybe a move is still coming, and maybe the Texans simply did not see an answer at QB in this draft. But from the sounds of things they will likely trot either Ryan Fitzpatrick of Ryan Mallett out there in 2014. For a team that otherwise has the goods to enjoy a quick turnaround, that is a serious letdown.
Maybe we are missing something or this situation will change, but for now it lands them in the losers category for day two.
