5. Los Angeles Lakers

Possible Assets: 2014 NBA Draft Pick (Top-6 lottery pick)

The Los Angeles Lakers have been heavily connected to Kevin Love and with the NBA lottery later today, those rumors will only increase depending on where their draft pick lands. If the lottery pick lands in top-4, the Minnesota Timberwolves will have something to work with. Regardless of the pick if it lands in the top four, this could mean having a prospect of Jabari Parker, Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker or Dante Exum for the next 10-plus years if things play in their favor.

The reason the Lakers are placed at #5 is due to the lack of assets outside of their draft pick. Going into the offseason, the Lakers will have five players on their roster, four if Nick Young chooses to opt out of his player option. That leaves Robert Sacre who, at best, is the 11th best player on a playoff team right now, Kendall Marshall whose success may have been tied to playing under Mike D’Antoni, a broken-down Steve Nash, and Kobe Bryant who is owed $48 million over the next two seasons. Neither of these players are what the T’Wolves are looking for right now.

Even with a top lottery pick, the Lakers have a chance to increase their package as they add able and promising bodies to the roster in the offseason, but depending on what the rest of the league is offering, a top-4 pick may be good enough to nab Love.
