Wolfenstein hits 1080p, 60fps on both consoles

The developers behind Wolfenstein: The New Order, MachineGames, would like to set the record straight.  The Playstation 4 and Xbox One have been critiqued heavily in regards to which console offers superior processing power as well as developmental capabilities.

Attributed to using a built to scale engine, the team was able to hit 1060, and 60 frames per second across both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.  Senior Game Designer, Andreas Ojefors, told TechRadar was easier on this current generation than that of the last.

"“There was a much bigger difference in making a game for both PS3 and Xbox 360 back in the day than what it is now,” he said.“The new platforms are much, much more similar to work with than what we’re used to. So it is less of a challenge this time than it has been before.”"

To this point, the list is short and few for the games that run at both 1080p and 60 frames per second on the Xbox One.  Many developers have come out publicly stating that the Playstation 4 would be their lead console and that the graphical and technical expectations would be heightened for Sony’s console.  With MachineGames hitting the same specs across both systems, the bar could be raised for future development to keep future software offerings consistent.

Ojefors went on to tell TechRadar that the advancement was due, in large part, to the scaling that the Tech id 5 Engine was designed to achieve:

"“It’s about creating an engine that is from the very bottom up built to scale,” he said. “I think from the beginning when we got our hands on id Tech, we realised it was an engine that was built to scale very well between different platforms.“And it’s been an ongoing effort both among the engineers here at Machine games but also with a great deal of help from id’s software to make sure it’s an engine that continues to scale on the next generation of platforms.”"

Wolfenstein: The New Order is out now for both Xbox One and Playstation 4, let us know your thoughts on the full retail version of the game.
