It’s not every day that NBA legend Michael Jordan shows up at your elementary school to surprise you, so you can understand why these Charlotte, NC school kids were so thrilled to look up and see Jordan suddenly standing there.

Plus, you know, anything that interrupts class is a good thing. Let’s be honest about it. School kids love any kind of distraction from the drudgery of learning. That could’ve been the janitor standing there and they would’ve been at least mildly interested. Oh, something is going on besides stupid school? I’m into that, sure.

When it’s Michael Jordan, the excitement needle goes beyond “Oh My God Awesome No More School” to “You Better Call My Mom Cause I Just Had An Accident In My Pants.”

It’s cool to see that Michael Jordan still has that effect on the youngsters. I wonder if you’d get that kind of reaction outside Charlotte, where Jordan clearly has a high profile, being the owner of the local team and all.

Do elementary school kids around the country even know who Michael Jordan is?

Sure, if your dad is a hard-core basketball fan, you’re going to know all about Michael Jordan. But what about the kid of the non-basketball fan? Is Michael Jordan a widely-recognized figure among grade schoolers these days? I can’t believe that he is.

Those kids seemed to know who he was. Or, at least, they were really excited about that box he was holding. Because kids like getting presents.
