This goes out to all the haters saying Machado is bad for the game because he doesn’t adhere to the rules of proper etiquette. Okay, so the other day Machado did sort of act like a jerk by hitting Derek Norris twice on the head with his backswing and never checking to see if Norris was okay (Norris claims Machado actually smiled at him after one of the smacks, but I find that hard to believe).
So, Machado is a bad guy because he cracks catchers in the head and doesn’t ask if they’re okay? Machado has received the message from the Unwritten Rules of Baseball Police. Watch the new Manny Machado in action. He cracks A.J. Pierzynski in the head with his backswing, and stops to make sure that Pierzynski is still conscious.
Cue the chorus of angels, Manny Machado has seen the light! Now you can all stop scolding him for being a terrible human being who doesn’t care about the well-being of catchers. He cares about all the catchers, even that douchenozzle A.J. Pierzynski.
Now Manny just has to work on his bat-throwing temper tantrums. He’ll get five days off to think about that while he’s suspended. I’m sure he’ll do some deep soul searching on that one.
I believe what we’re witnessing is the dawning of a new Manny Machado. A kinder, gentler, less dickish Manny Machado.
