The NBA Draft is right around the corner and teams are starting to look at the draft class and narrow down a list of potential prospects they’d like to take. Not all of the drama is up in the lottery as the depth of the class this year has led many to believe that we cold see excitement across the board.

More from Charlotte Hornets

One of the names we have already heard plenty about is former Michigan Wolverines big man Mitch McGary, who was basically forced to declare for the draft following a violation for smoking pot that would have seen his entire season wiped away. He was discussed as a potential lottery pick before injuries and off-court problems sunk his status, but the Hornets apparently still like what they see.

The Hornets drafting McGary would give them a big man that they need and he’d be bringing potential lottery level skill to the Hornets in the late stages of the first round. That’s value right there and it’s the kind of upside the Hornets have been looking at for months now.

Of course, we’ve heard promises made in the past that weren’t kept and the lay of the land when the Hornets go on the clock at No. 24 — assuming they don’t trade the pick first — may change their minds. but McGary is an interesting prospect and there is clearly interest in him in the first round.
