Oklahoma City Thunder

Former Michigan big man Mitch McGary was the choice for Sam Presti and company with the 21st overall pick, and I am slightly torn. McGary was one of “my guys” in the draft, but without a physical evaluation, it seems to be a slight reach to see him selected this early. Still, his motor and rebounding ability will play well in Oklahoma City from day one, and if he is able to avoid health concerns, McGary could actually prove to be a steal in recovering his lottery pedigree from the previous season.

The Thunder had two first round picks, though, and the second of them was considerably more baffling. Josh Huestis of Stanford was the pick at #29 overall, and most considered him to be a mid-second round pick. Defense is the calling card of the 6-foot-7 Huestis, but I’m not sure he helps Oklahoma City at all on the offensive side, and that is an interesting choice.
