Destiny beta release date and special edition details


Bungie gave Microsoft and Xbox gamers Halo, and the first person shooter genre has forever been changed thanks to the success of the series.  As Bungie has since stepped away from Microsoft and given the reigns of Halo over, Destiny has become their next great project.  With some timed exclusives for the PlayStation 4, Destiny gamers on Xbox consoles are finally getting some details surrounding the highly anticipated game.

The beta for Destiny will be headed to both the Microsoft Xbox One and Xbox 360 on July 23.  PlayStation gamers will get access to the beta on July 17, and unfortunately for Xbox gamers, the beta is set to end for everyone on July 27.

Multiple special editions were also introduced by Activision and Bungie today.  Destiny’s limited edition includes a metal case, an arms and armament field guide, novelty postcards, an antique star chart, an exclusive player emblem and ship variant, and access to both Destiny expansion packs.  As it stands, PlayStation gamers will have exclusivity for the expansion packs until at least fall 2015.  The limited edition will retail for $99.99.

A Ghost edition of Destiny will be made available as well.  Everything from the Limited edition is included, as well as a Ghost model replica, featuring motion-activated lights and voice recordings from Peter Dinklage, who voices Ghost. The ghost edition will also give gamers a letter of introduction, as well as more novelty items from the Golden Age. The Ghost edition will retail for $149.99.

Pre orders for the digital-exclusive Destiny Guardian edition gain access to the expansion packs, as well as an exclusive digital content pack. This edition will retail for $89.99. The two expansions can be pre-ordered for $34.99 as a bundle and will be priced individually at $19.99 each.

Destiny is set to release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on September 9.  Check out images of each edition below.
