4. Who’s getting underpaid?

Daniel (@minutemandan): Zach Randolph. Two years for $20 million? Meanwhile, Gordon Hayward is going to be getting two more years with double the money. Which player would you rather have?

David (@_Verts): Isaiah Thomas was quietly one of the best point guards in basketball last season. His size and injury history will be enough to make teams question his ability, which is troubling because wow can he play. Per 36 minutes, Thomas averaged 21.1 points, 6.5 assists and 3 boards, with a true-shooting clip of 57.4%. His stature hurts his defense, but he’s slippery, lightning quick and he tries on that end. Whichever team ends up with Thomas on their roster will have likely committed highway robbery.

Jordan (@JordanSWhite): Isaiah Thomas, unfortunately. It just seems like it’s his destiny to be perpetually underrated and under-appreciated.

Derek (@DerekJamesNBA): Not to beat a dead horse, but the longer Isaiah Thomas sits on the market, the less money and fewer opportunities he’ll see.

Sean (@highkin): Trevor Booker. I was stunned when the Wizards extended a qualifying offer to Kevin Seraphin but not him. Some smart team is going to pick up Booker dirt cheap and get a killer third big.

Scott (@crabdribbles): Even though he’s 36 and beyond his prime, Dirk Nowitzki is getting underpaid at $30 million over three-years. It’s by design, sure, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s worth a lot more. After all, the Houston Rockets have offered him a max contract, which is supposedly still on the table for his taking (he won’t take it).

Jared (@jadubin5): LeBron.

Evans: (@evansclinchy): Well, Dirk. But that’s so obvious, it’s practically cheating, so I’ll give a second answer, and it happens to be one of his teammates. The Mavs re-signed Devin Harris for three years and only $9 million! They were fairly desperate to keep Harris for guard depth, having already traded away Jose Calderon and Shane Larkin, and they managed to do so cheaply despite having no leverage. Harris is a nice player who can reliably provide Dallas with bench scoring, and his deal looks ridiculously cheap when you contrast him with other “third guard” types like Darren Collison and Shaun Livingston.
