Shapeit can turn your favorite in-game character into a 3D-printed figurine

Let’s face it: we gamers spend a lot of time with our favorite in-game characters. It’s quite possible that I spend more time with some of my MMO toons than I do with my wife, at least in terms of solid, uninterrupted one-on-one time.

And while getting your character properly geared up and looking exactly the way you want him or her to appear can be its own reward, there are probably times you wished for something a little more tangible than a screenshot to show off your efforts to the world. Something like, say, a 3D-printed figurine?

Believe it or not, someone is working on this right now. Shapeit currently has a Kickstarter campaign going that would make this idea a reality, allowing game designers to use its API to incorporate this feature directly into future video games.

The figurines will come in three sizes, ranging from 1.5 inches to four inches tall. The largest figures are made of a gypsum-based powder that ends up in a granular finish but can support pretty awesome detail and come in full color. Smaller figurines are made of plastic for extra durability and can be colored or left plain for you to paint.

Shapeit gets as close as possible to the scans people send them of video game characters and can even transform 2D graphics into fully realized creations. Most of the backer rewards include custom figures, so you won’t even have to wait to bring your favorites to life if you support the campaign.
