Brooklyn Nets declined to match Paul Pierce offer from Wizards
By Josh Hill
The Washington Wizards didn’t land LeBron James but they pulled off a move that was similarly as shocking as the Cavs being able to land The King back in Cleveland. While the two moves hardly equate completely, the Wizards landing Paul Pierce out of the complete blue without a doubt has some of that LeBron shock value to it.

But while the Wizards stole Pierce away from the Nets, it’s not as though Brooklyn didn’t have a chance to bring their star veteran back for another season.
Andy Vasquez from NorthJersey.com, the Brooklyn Nets had a chance to match the offer that the Washington Wizards gave Paul Pierce but they ultimately declined to do so — which flies in the face of the chest beating Billy King did over never wanting to give Paul Pierce up.

"According to several reports the Nets had the chance to match the Wizards price and sign Pierce, but they declined. The Nets had Pierce’s Bird Rights, and the ability to pay him more than any other team, but they did not."
This might anger some Nets fans who wanted to see Pierce back, but for a team as cash-strapped as the Nets are, $11 million over two years is a bit pricey. The real question is that why couldn’t the Los Angeles Clippers or Chicago Bulls come up with cash to get Pierce, as there was interest from those two teams in Pierce as well.
