NFL: Andrew Luck, 10 best players to start a franchise

Russell Wilson, Quarterback – Seattle Seahawks
This is likely a controversial selection, but as the “championship belt” holder at the quarterback position, Russell Wilson gets the nod. In all honesty, the value at the quarterback position indicates that the great majority (or perhaps all) of this list should be represented by quarterbacks, and the diminutive signal caller has exceeded any rational expectation as a member of the Seahawks.
If there is a real question about Wilson’s inclusion here, it is his lack of “upside”, but because of what he is asked to do offensively, that is a bit unfair. In just his second season, Wilson completed 63% of his passes with a near 3-to-1 touchdown to interception ratio, and when you factor in his incredible value in the running game (539 yards on just 96 carries) and in escaping the pass rush, it is easy to see how he earns his keep.
The most impressive trait surrounding Wilson is how he operates and commands the Seattle offense. There is no doubt as to who runs the show (despite his young age at just 25), and quite honestly, Russell Wilson’s arm talent matches up to the other top-tier quarterbacks across the NFL. There will always be mild concerns about his lack of size, but Wilson has silenced the critics and earned the right to be called a true building block in the league.
