NFL: Andrew Luck, 10 best players to start a franchise
By Brad Rowland
Aaron Rodgers, Quarterback – Green Bay Packers
The 30-year-old Rodgers is (easily) the oldest player on this list of ten commodities, but until Peyton Manning‘s unbelievable resurgence in Denver (note: Manning’s age basically disqualified him from this list), the Green Bay signal caller was considered to be the best quarterback on the planet, and that matters. Even with the fact that his age begins with a “3”, there is a great deal of football left in Rodgers, and his established level of excellence makes him an incredible building block at the most important position in the NFL.
Last season, Rodgers was banged up to the tune of being absent for 7 games, but his statistics (66.6% completion rate, 281.8 yards per game, 104.9 QB rating) were in line with his established norms, and his injury woes don’t look to be chronic. Because of the nature of Green Bay’s offense (and the addition of Eddie Lacy), Rodgers may not challenge for the league’s passing title each season, but he is still markedly athletic and has incredible arm talent to make every throw on the field.
A 30-year-old at any non-quarterback position would be crazy, but with Peyton Manning and Tom Brady still cooking, Aaron Rodgers should be a top-tier player well into the next decade.
