NFL: Andrew Luck, 10 best players to start a franchise
By Brad Rowland
Richard Sherman, Cornerback – Seattle Seahawks
Richard Sherman became the most divisive figure in all of the NFL during Seattle’s march to the Super Bowl in 2013, but don’t be fooled, he doubles as the best cornerback in the league. At 6-foot-3 and nearly 200 pounds, Sherman has incredible size for the position, often out-matching opposing wide receivers, and he still possesses fluidity, speed and quickness to remain stride for stride without giving up an inch. It is almost comical to note that Sherman was able to generate 8 interceptions and 18 passes defended in 2013, simply because no one wants to throw his way, but he seemingly always finds his way into the fray.
In addition to being an elite cover corner, the 26-year-old Sherman uses his size effectively in the running game as well, often sticking his nose in against running backs on the outside. There is quite obviously some concern that even a small downturn in his skills could lead Sherman to become a punchline given his brash persona, but until that day arrives, he is the most feared cornerback in the league and one of the game’s best defensive players.
