CLEVELAND BROWNS

Let’s start with the Browns, the most logical suitor for Johnson’s services.

The Browns are flush with the cap space ($24 million) needed for the remainder of Johnson’s $62.7 million contract, and possess the necessary ammunition (two first-round draft picks) to execute a trade. Most importantly, they have a gigantic hole at the position thanks to the impending suspension of boneheaded star receiver Josh Gordon.

In Cleveland, Johnson would immediately step in as the top target for the club’s yet-to-be-determined starting quarterback — Brian Hoyer or rookie Johnny Manziel. If the latter wins the job, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Johnson becomes one heck of a security blanket.

Browns general manager Ray Farmer has demonstrated he’s not afraid to be aggressive to get his man. If there’s one trick left up his sleeve, this should be it. It almost makes too much sense.
