The Los Angeles Lakers pulled off a pretty surprising move earlier last weeks when they won the amnesty bidding to acquire Carlos Boozer from the Chicago Bulls.

More from Chicago Bulls

Chicago was long rumored to be letting Boozer go, but no one realized just how far he’d slip on the auction block, as the Lakers low-end bid of $3.25 million was enough to get Boozer to come to L.A. and put the Bulls on the hook for over $13 million for a player who won’t even be on their roster.

According to Dave McMenamin of ESPNLosAngeles.com, the Lakers were surprised they landed Carlos Boozer but aren’t at all upset that they did.

"Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak is still surprised his team was able to acquire Carlos Boozer.“Fortunately for us and unexpectedly for us, our bid was the highest bid and we were awarded Carlos,” Kupchak said Friday during Boozer’s introductory news conference. “Not for a second did we think that he’d be available to us.”L.A. landed Boozer with a $3.25 million bid shortly after the 13-year veteran was waived by the Chicago Bulls via the amnesty provision."

The fact that the Bulls are paying for someone they aren’t going to use isn’t the surprising part of this story, as not even the Lakers thought they were going to land Boozer this summer when his contract went up for auction following his amnesty from the Bulls.
