Jose Iglesias trade rumors: Detroit Tigers won’t deal shortstop
By Dan Zinski
There are some who think Jose Iglesias has become expendable in Detroit with the emergence of shortstop Eugenio Suarez, but the Tigers themselves reportedly do not share this assessment. Yes they love Suarez, no they are not going to just deal Iglesias.

Dave Dombrowski expressed his pleasure with Suarez, who has played well at short since being promoted from triple-A in June (via MLive).
"“We are comfortable with Suarez,” Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said during a conference call earlier this week. “He’s done a very nice job for us. To sum it up, he’s mature beyond his years and seems to handle situations very well.”“He’s been solid defensively for us, which is first and foremost and we think he can continue to do that,” Dombrowski said. “He’s a youngster, so you have to realize he’ll go through some ups and downs, but he’s also contributed offensively.”"
That sort of praise will naturally lead to speculation about Iglesias being moved, but there are some problems for the Tigers.
First, Detroit is not yet entirely convinced that Suarez can be the man in the long-run. They will probably want a longer look at him before making up their minds.
Two, Iglesias continues to deal with stress fractures in his shins, and the uncertainty over this condition is pushing down his trade value.
Trading Iglesias now would mean taking less than what he’s worth. So, the Tigers likely will hold on to him until after the season.
