Doug McDermott

Dougie McBuckets looked every bit of that nickname in Las Vegas using his shooting ability, strength and bulk to rack up 18 efficient points per game. The long-range accuracy will be especially helpful to the Bulls, who ranked 26th in made 3s last season as part of an offense that was one of the worst in the league and at the very bottom of all playoff teams (28th in offensive efficiency, last in Effective Field Goal%). The degree to which the rest of McDemott’s offensive arsenal, like his post-up game, will translate from the NCAA level is an open question. But even as just a spot-up shooter, he provides a threat Chicago desperately needed to add.

While McDermott is expected to struggle some defensively, the Bulls team system (not to mention exemplary individual defenders like Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson and Jimmy Butler) will cover for some individual deficiencies so long as McDermott is able to execute coach Tom Thibodeau’s rotations well enough to stay on the court.
