NBA Power Rankings: Top 10 shooting guards for 2014-15
8. Joe Johnson:
2013-14 Stat Line: 79 games, 32.6 MPG, 15.8 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 2.7 APG, 0.6 SPG, .454/.401/.815 shooting, 15.5 PER
Joe Johnson probably didn’t deserve to be an All-Star last season, but his season looked a lot like what J.J. Redick would have done had he stayed healthy all season long. Redick plays in a tougher conference and his numbers are a little more impressive when you consider he’s not a main option on offense, but next season, Johnson will play a bigger role in the offense following Paul Pierce’s departure.
“Joe Jesus” remained as effective as ever from three-point range and though he barely had an above-average PER last season, he was the Brooklyn Nets’ leading scorer (other than Brook Lopez, who only played 17 games). When Johnson got hot from the field, he was as tough to stop as anyone.
Johnson’s long been one of the NBA’s worst contracts and his best days are behind him, but again, the shooting guard position is severely skimpy these days and with an increase in offensive responsibility next year, Joe Cool should continue to shoot the lights out and have a better 2014-15 campaign in the scoring column.
