Gorgui Dieng

Speaking of the Timberwolves, one wonders if their season might have turned out differently had Coach Rick Adelman started giving Dieng regular minutes early in the season.  One of Minnesota’s chief weaknesses last year was their inability to defend the rim when any combination of Love, Nikola Pekovic and Dante Cunnigham shared the floor. Dieng was drafted in part for his abilities as a shot blocker, yet he didn’t play over 20 minutes in a game until the Wolves’ 55th contest.

Yet when Dieng played he was one of the very best rim protectors in the NBA on a per minute basis. If he can continue that defensive production while improving his offense (and limiting his fouling to allow him to stay on the floor), Minnesota may well have a defensive cornerstone for their latest rebuilding project.
