NFL Rankings: 10 best running backs in the league
By Brad Rowland
7) Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers
Frank Gore is still churning out productive seasons.
At 31 years old, everyone (including, potentially, his own team) has counted out Gore at one point or another, but with the exception of one, injury-plagued season in 2010, he has surpassed 1,000 yards in seven of eight seasons, and he was extremely effective in 2013. It is certainly true that San Francisco has limited his workload a bit in recent years, with 258 carries in 2012 and 276 carries in 2013, but he has been the workhorse in “crunch time” for the Niners, and that should continue this season.
The best part of Gore’s game has always been his vision, and he is seemingly always hitting the correct hole at the right time as a result. Because he is the oldest starting running back in the entire NFL, that trademark “burst” that most younger players have is largely gone, but Gore also isn’t just a power back, and he is capable of ripping off longer runs when given the opportunity.
In year ten, Frank Gore is still among the best running backs in the league.
