NFL: Ranking the offseason for all 32 teams
By Bryce Olin
22. Houston Texans
With the top pick in the NFL Draft, the Texans made the right choice and drafted DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney. Paired with J.J. Watt on the defensive line, Clowney should be a handful in his rookie season and help the Texans get pressure on opposing quarterbacks. If someone hasn’t made a photoshop of Clowney and Watt riding a wrecking ball like Miley Cyrus, someone needs to, like, STAT!
This offseason, the Texans fired Gary Kubiak and brought in former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien. The Texans still don’t have a proven quarterback. Ryan Fitzpatrick looked terrible in the team’s 32-0 beat down by the Arizona Cardinals. Fitzpatrick went 6-of-14 for 55 yards and two interceptions in the game. Yikes.
Ultimately, the Texans aren’t much better than they were in 2013, at least they didn’t show it in the first preseason game. I don’t anticipate them finishing 2-14 again, especially if Arian Foster is healthy, but until O’Brien finds a quarterback who can get the ball to Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins, it’s going to be hard to win games.
