 29. Carolina Panthers

Yikes.

That’s all I can muster after looking at who the Panthers lost this offseason and who they brought in as replacements. It’s easy to say Carolina had one of the worst offseasons in all the NFL.

The Panthers let Cam Newton’s two best targets from last season, Brandon LaFell and Steve Smith, walk in free agency this offseason. The best replacements Carolina could find in free agency were, well, underwhelming, and that’s probably the nicest way anyone could put it. The Panthers signed WR Jerricho Cotchery and WR Jason Avant, and also drafted WR Kelvin Benjamin from Florida State to form the new receiving corps.

Next season, I can’t imagine Newton will be better with this group of receivers, who are definitely a down-grade from last season. The pressure will, again, be on Carolina’s defense to save the day, something that happened way too often last season.
