NFL: 5 players that should be traded before season
BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Cincinnati Bengals running back
After two seasons in Cincinnati, it’s come time for the Law Firm to pack up and relocate. And he likely knows it, too. After all, the writing was on the wall after the Bengals used its 2013 second-round pick on Gio Bernard, a faster, younger and less expensive running back.
Following a 1,000-yard season in 2012, Bernard’s presence limited Green-Ellis to just 756 rushing yards last season. Despite new coordinator Hue Jackson installing a run-first scheme, BJGE has been relegated to third- and fourth-string duties, competing neck-and-neck with rookie Jeremy Hill.
Cincy may prefer to hang onto the 29-year-old Green-Ellis as insurance, but he’d find snaps easier to come by elsewhere. If I’m the 49ers, Colts, or Panthers, I’m at least putting in a call to gauge the Bengals’ interest.
