NFL Rankings: 10 best wide receivers in the league
By Brad Rowland
10) Alshon Jeffery, Chicago Bears
If we were simply evaluating the 2013 season, Alshon Jeffery would be higher on this list. After a nearly invisible season as a rookie out of South Carolina in 2012, the 6-foot-3 Jeffery absolutely exploded in Chicago last season, and the results were staggering. Jeffery made the leap from 367 yards as a rookie to 1,421 last season, and he showed his home run ability to the tune of 16.0 yards per catch on 89 grabs.
It is important to remember that Jeffery was operating as the “number two” with the Bears, as Brandon Marshall caught more balls, garnered more targets and crossed the goal line more often. That being said, Jeffery has alleviated any concern about his speed, and at this stage, he is every bit the pure athlete that Marshall is at his ever-advancing age.
With another full year at this level, Jeffery will join the uber-elite, but until then, he’ll “settle” for being one of the best young wide receivers in the league in an offense that is tailor-made for his skills.
