Johnny Manziel and 15 NFL players sure to disappoint in 2014
4. Julius Peppers, Green Bay Packers
Peppers, 34, is similar to the player ranked below him in that he is destined for Canton and enshrinement in the Hall of Fame when his playing days come to an end, but the Hall of Fame production is over for Peppers.
The Chicago Bears released Peppers after this season in what was one part done for salary cap purposes and the other part for declining skills.
Peppers had 7.5 sacks last year, his lowest total since the 2007 season, and was invisible for long stretches of time in his fourth and final season in Chicago. The Packers snatched him up in free agency hoping he will do damage to his former team, but he will have to play a new position as an outside linebacker in their 3-4 scheme and he’s going to struggle adapting.
At 6-6, 290-pounds, Peppers has long been recognized as one of the physical marvels in the NFL and one of the most athletic defensive ends in the NFL, but switching positions at 34 rarely every works.
Peppers has never been asked to play in space or without his hand in the dirt like he will this year and while he used to be a freak on the field, he is nothing more than a situational pass-rusher now.
