Third Team: G – Jason Kidd:

2000s Resume: 10 seasons, two NBA Finals appearances, four-time All-NBA First Team, one-time All-NBA Second Team, seven-time NBA All-Star, three-time NBA All-Defensive First Team, five-time NBA All-Defensive Second Team, four-time NBA leader in assists, 14.1 PPG, 9.3 APG, 7.0 RPG and 1.9 SPG, 19.0 average PER

The true mark of a point guard is one that makes his team better, and Jason Kidd did that on every new team he joined throughout his career…all without having to score. When he joined the Phoenix Suns, he helped improved the team’s win total by 16 the next season. When he joined the New Jersey Nets after the Suns panic-traded him following his domestic abuse incident in 2001, he helped the Nets team win 26 more games than the year before.

J-Kidd wasn’t able to break through and win a championship until 2011, the twilight of his career with the Dallas Mavericks. But he was a perennial triple-double machine and led the New Jersey to two consecutive NBA Finals appearances without much help. Kidd led the league in assists four times for the decade and was one of its best rebounders for his position as well.

Add that to his prowess on the defensive end and his Superman-like court vision and you’re looking at one of the best NBA point guards of all time. Though he started off his career without much of a perimeter shot, Kidd eventually honed that talent as well and is now third all-time in made three-pointers. Kidd is also second all-time in assists and steals, he was one of the league’s best teammates and with 107 triple-doubles, Kidd is third on the all-time list.
