But: If second-year quarterback Geno Smith digresses, it does not bode well for the offense. However, it’s been so far so good for the second-round pick of a year ago and he (via Rich Cimini of ESPN.com) will open the season when the Jets host the Oakland Raiders in Week 1.

This past season, Smith started all 16 games, completed just 55.8 percent of his passes and committed more than twice as many turnovers (25, including 21 interceptions) as touchdown passes thrown (12). Still, there are those aforementioned six rushing touchdowns and this season, and an improved supporting cast that includes Johnson, wide receiver Eric Decker and rookie tight end Jace Amaro, to name a few. They’ll team with wideout Jeremy Kerley and tight end Jeff Cumberland to give Smith more options.
