9. Washington Redskins: Kirk Cousins

The backup quarterback situation in Washington is a weird one to place in the landscape of the NFL. Obviously, Robert Griffin III has the starting quarterback job locked up. If RG3 struggles to find a rhythm and is hurting the team, how long does head coach Jay Gruden stick with him at quarterback?

That’s why this quarterback situation isn’t great for Cousins. There is no winning scenario for him. He can’t just be better than RG3 because Washington invested so much in drafting RG3. They can’t just give up on him this early in his career. If that’s truly the case, then Cousins will just have to sub-in when Griffin gets hurt and hold down the fort until Griffin gets healthy again.

Washington makes the list of the ten best backup quarterback situations because Cousins will get to play at some point this season. RG3 isn’t going to hold up this season. Have you seen him try to run and slide in the preseason so far?

He’s already shown he doesn’t know how to slide. It’s only a matter of time before Cousins takes over.

After RG3’s healthy though, it’s back to the bench for Cousins. With Washington, sadly, Cousins will always be playing for a contract with another team, he has a good opportunity to make that happen this season.
