Entering Tuesday night’s game, the Rockies had actually won four straight against the Giants. That might have had Colorado, or what’s left of them, thinking about playing spoiler against a divisional foe. Starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner put a stop to those plans on Tuesday with a game, and on Wednesday it was Buster Posey who ensured a Giants’ victory.
This one was in doubt until the very end, with the game tied at 2-2 entering the bottom of the ninth inning. With a runner on Posey faced the hard-throwing Juan Nicasio out of the Rockies’ bullpen. Posey was able to get the barrel to a pitch up in the zone, get on top of it, and drive it over the left field fence with authority for the thrilling walk-off win.
It was Posey’s third home run in the last two days, and it clinched another key victory for the Giants as they eye a run to the playoffs in September.
