NHL: 25 most dominant offensive players of all-time
By Daniel
10. Alexander Ovechkin (2005-Present): 46 Points
“Alexander the Great” barely edged out the Penguins’ star for a place in the top 10…at the moment. Ovechkin has simply been an offensive power since joining the league. He’s led the league in points only once, but has led the league in goals four separate times. He’s put together four 100-point seasons while snagging an impressive five 50-goal seasons. In a list that’s weighing only offense, “Ovi” certainly deserves to be among the all-time greats. Career points-per-game: 1.19
Primary Team: Washington Capitals
9. Mike Bossy (1977-1987): 50 Points
Another major piece of the Islanders’ 1980s dynasty was the immaculate Mike Bossy. His career was relatively short but it was phenomenal. In the first nine of his 10 seasons in the NHL he scored at least 50 goals. Think about that for a second. Seven times he hit the 100-point plateau and twice he led the NHL in goals. There may not have ever been a more consistently-great scorer in NHL history. Career points-per-game: 1.49 (third best all-time)
Primary Team: New York Islanders
8. Bobby Orr (1966-1979): 56 Points
The most impressive inclusion on this list is Bobby Orr. He is the only defenseman to crack this top 25 and he made it into the top 10. Not only that, his career was cut short. Orr dominated his position as good as anyone has ever dominated a position in NHL history. From the defensive position he led the league in points twice and assists five times. Six times he scored at least 100 points in a season and in 1974-75 he came within four goals of a 50-goal season. Career points-per-game: 1.39 (tied for fourth best all-time).
Primary Team: Boston Bruins
6. (TIE) Bobby Hull (1957-1972, 79-80): 62 Points
The greatest player in Chicago history, “The Golden Jet,” was one of the game’s most prolific scorers. Seven times he led the NHL in goals. In case you’re wondering, that’s more than anyone in NHL history. Three times he led the league in points, one time he hit the 100-point mark, and five times he bagged 50 goals. Career points-per-game: 1.11
Primary Team: Chicago Blackhawks
6. (TIE) Guy Lafleur (1971-1991): 62 Points
“The Flower” Lafleur did it all for the Canadiens. He led the league in points in three consecutive seasons from 1975-1978. He led the league in goals and assists one time a piece and put together six 100-point seasons and six 50-goal seasons. All six 50-goal seasons came in sequence from 1974-80. He will always be remembered as an all-time great. Career points-per-game: 1.20
Primary Team: Montreal Canadiens
