New England Patriots

If: The Patriots attack continues to focus around a strong running game and keeping defenses off-balance. In each of the last two seasons, Bill Belichick’s club has ranked in the Top 10 in total offense, as well as both rushing and passing.

And: Veteran quarterback Tom Brady continues to gain rapport with his pass-catchers. For several reasons, he and his targets were not on the same page most of 2013, save for productive wideout Julian Edelman (105 catches). With another offseason behind them, look for Brady to get back to the 30-plus touchdown pass mark.

But: The defense that was racked by injuries at key spots a year ago lives up to promise. The offseason additions of cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner (the latter suspended the first four games) certainly help and outside linebacker Jamie Collins is a player to watch. Defensive end Chandler Jones could be on the verge of a monster season.

Conclusion: The Pats have won 10 or more games 11 straight years, have posted 13 consecutive winning seasons and have won the AFC East each of the last five years. None of the other three clubs in the division appear to pose a serious threat to Belichick and company. A Super Bowl appearance is certainly a very strong possibility again and perhaps this is the year they hoist another Lombardi Trophy.
