The Top Five

5. Tom Brady – New England Patriots

Tom Brady had one of his worst statistical years in a while last season and still passed for 4,300 yards and lead New England to a 12-4 record and a trip to the AFC title game. Not bad for a down year, huh? It appears he’ll have more weapons to work with this year so look for better numbers again in 2014.

4. Phillip Rivers – San Diego Chargers

I don’t think Phillip Rivers gets enough credit for just how good he was last season. He actually lead the league in completion percentage while throwing for 4,478 yards, 32 TDs, and only 11 interceptions. He’ll have to prove he can do it without Ken Whisenhunt as his OC this year, but Rivers was definitely one of the top five QBs in the NFL last season.

3. Drew Brees – New Orleans Saints

There may not be a more consistent elite NFL QB than Drew Brees. If you had to bet your life savings on one QB passing for 5,000 yards this season the smart bet would likely be Brees who has done so in three consecutive seasons. He may be 35 years old, but he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down yet.

2. Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers

Of the QBs in the top five of these rankings, Aaron Rodgers is the youngest and the one most likely to have his best years still in front of him. That’s something considering the fact that he’s already won a Super Bowl and had a season in which he threw for 4,600 yards, 45 TDs, and only 6 interceptions. With Green Bay committed to keeping him stocked with receiving targets, Rodgers is a legit threat to take over the number one spot in these rankings.

1. Peyton Manning – Denver Broncos

Do I think that Peyton Manning will repeat his record-breaking performance of 2013? No, but when you pass for 342 yards per game with 55 TDs you deserve the number one spot on a QB power rankings list until someone comes along and takes it from you. Manning may not repeat his 2013 season, but if he stays healthy he’s a lock to finish in the top three.

So what do you think? Is there anyone not on this list that deserves to be? Is there anyone that you think is far too high or too low? Feel free to make your case in the comments below.
