Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles

I really like where the Jaguars are headed. I love their coach and it looks like they hit a home run when they took Blake Bortles and Marqise Lee early in the draft this year. That having been said, I think they’re clearly still a year away from really arriving. Meanwhile, Chip Kelly has quickly turned the Eagles into the clear favorite in the NFC East this season. I just don’t see how a Chad Henne/Toby Gerhart lead offense can go on the road and keep pace with LeSean McCoy and the rest of the high flying Eagles attack. The Jags will surprise a few people at times this season, but I don’t think week one will be one of those times.

Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers

The idea of Johnny Manziel and Josh Gordon teaming up on offense sounded like a promising young QB/WR combo for the Browns, unfortunately with Gordon suspended and Manziel unable to beat out veteran Brian Hoyer, that’s not happening, at least not yet. The Browns have the makings of a good defense and run game, but Pittsburgh’s pairing of Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown is clearly more potent than anything the Browns can do on offense. The Steelers actually comfortably swept the Browns last season by a combined score of 47-18. While I think Cleveland keeps it close, I like the Steelers in this one.
