NFL Overreactions Week 1: Jaguars lose, regain identity
Raiders continue “Commitment to Avoiding Excellence” in loss vs. Jets, make case for relocation
Even with a renewed sense of hope for the 2014 season, the Oakland Raiders are making a strong case for relocating the team after their 19-14 loss in New York to the Jets on Sunday. Oakland is hoping that their lack of success this year will force fans to want the team to leave to Los Angeles or San Antonio, or anywhere away from Oakland because the city Is tired of losing. There were also rumors that Al Davis rolled in his grave during the game today wondering what the hell offensive coordinator Greg Olsen was doing.
The Raiders inability to move downfield all minus two times in Sunday’s opening game held them from a strong chance to start the season 1-0 against the Jets. Instead, the Raiders waste a decent first start by rookie Derek Carr who played as if he was under a restraining order to throw deep until the final minutes of the game.
Defensively, the Raiders allowed the Jets to outgain them in yardage 4-to-1 offensively, making Geno Smith look like a seasoned vet. The newly acquired Justin Tuck, Antonio Smith, Lamarr Woodley and rookie Khalil Mack were non-factors in the loss as the defense looked absolutely atrocious.
Could be another long year for the Raiders if they can’t fix their problems on both sides of the ball in time for their home opener against the Texans next Sunday.
