NFL power rankings Week 1: Monday morning ranks
By Josh Sanchez
After a promising preseason from rookie quarterback Derek Carr, the Oakland Raiders threw him to the wolves for a Week One matchup against Rex Ryan and the New York Jets.
Things didn’t go as planned for Oakland, who lost 19-14 in a game that was not as close as the score indicated.
Carr was able to avoid throwing any back-breaking interceptions for the team, and he got rid of the ball quickly with just two sacks on 32 passing attempts.
The biggest problem for Oakland was their lack of a well-rounded offense. The team’s leading rusher, Darren McFadden, had just 15 yards on the ground and Rod Streater was the leading receiver with five catches for 46 yards and a touchdown.
While it wasn’t a complete disaster, the Raiders are going to need to find more support for Carr if the team is going to take a positive step forward in 2014.
